How to play

General Information Elderwood Ezreal is a Fast 8 / Fast 9 composition built around Ezreal as the main carry. The main goal is to play a strong Elderwood opener, preserve your HP and economy, and then transition into a powerful late-game board. 5 Elderwood is a very good base for the composition, while 7 Elderwood becomes especially valuable when you have an Elderwood Emblem. In the current patch, 7 Elderwood was also buffed through the Deepwood Protector, making this breakpoint more attractive. Early Game Start with an upgraded Elderwood board whenever possible and try to play for a win streak. LeBlanc or Xayah can hold Ezreal's items during the early game. LeBlanc is particularly useful because she can create copies of units from your board, so you can use this mechanic to avoid playing unnecessary units. Focus on building a strong board rather than greedily saving every component. If you have AD items, you can already start preparing for Ezreal, while AP items can be used on LeBlanc or saved for your secondary carry. Mid Game During Stage 3, continue adding Elderwood units while leveling. You can temporarily play Spellweavers or other strong frontline units depending on what you hit. If you start getting more AD items, Xayah and other ranged carries can hold them until Ezreal arrives. The important part is to maintain your tempo and avoid spending too much gold before your main roll. Your goal is to reach Level 8 with a healthy economy, then roll enough to stabilize your board. If you already have most of your important units upgraded, stop rolling and start saving for Level 9. Level 8 At Level 8, look for Ezreal, Soraka and your upgraded frontline. You don't need to completely roll down to zero unless your board is too weak to survive. The standard plan is to stabilize around Ezreal 2 + Soraka + strong frontline, then rebuild your economy and push Level 9. If you have an Elderwood Emblem, you can reach 7 Elderwood earlier and use the additional power to stabilize. One important rule is to avoid chasing upgrades that don't significantly improve your board. This composition gets a much bigger spike from reaching Level 9 and adding powerful late-game units. Itemization Ezreal: Deathblade + Last Whisper + Spear of Shojin These are the standard items, while Red Buff, Giant Slayer, Infinity Edge and Striker's Flail are also strong alternatives depending on your components. Soraka: Give her your remaining AP and utility items. Spear of Shojin + Rabadon's Deathcap + Void Staff is a strong setup, but you can adapt her items depending on what you receive. Hecarim / Main Tank: Prioritize strong defensive items such as Gargoyle Stoneplate, Warmog's Armor, Spirit Visage, Protector's Vow or Evenshroud. Try to build your frontline early instead of holding every defensive component for a perfect combination. Late Game Once your Level 8 board is stable, push Level 9. Your main goal is to complete 7 Elderwood whenever possible and add powerful late-game units. Gnar is especially important because he allows you to reach 7 Elderwood in the standard version. From there, you can add units such as Lux and other strong 5-costs depending on your board. Lux is particularly valuable when you can activate 3 Executioner, giving you another strong source of damage alongside Ezreal. Don't tunnel on a single exact Level 9 board. Once your core is complete, use the remaining slots for the strongest units you can find. 5 vs 7 Elderwood 5 Elderwood is the safest breakpoint and works well as the foundation of the composition. 7 Elderwood is the preferred upgrade when you have an Elderwood Emblem or can reach it naturally without sacrificing too much board strength. In the current patch, the Deepwood Protector at 7 Elderwood received a buff to both its mana requirement and resistances, making the breakpoint more powerful. I wouldn't force 9 Elderwood just because you can reach it. The 9-piece bonus was nerfed in the current patch, so in many games it is better to use the additional slots for powerful late-game units instead. Overall Game Plan Strong Elderwood opener → LeBlanc/Xayah item holder → build economy → Level 8 and stabilize → Ezreal + Soraka → push Level 9 → 7 Elderwood → Lux + strong late-game units. Alternative Lines If you have more AD items, you can play Aphelios as a secondary carry instead of focusing entirely on Soraka. Aphelios works especially well with an Elderwood Emblem, allowing you to reach 7 Elderwood more easily while keeping Ezreal as your main carry. Diana can also be added to the frontline, giving you an additional strong defensive unit while fitting naturally into the Elderwood board. This version is especially good when your items favor both AD carries, with Guinsoo's Rageblade + Kraken's Fury being strong options for Aphelios. Another option is to play Ahri as your secondary carry. If you get an Executioner Emblem, putting it on Ahri is a very strong way to increase the power of the late-game board while also activating 3 Executioner alongside Ezreal. In this version, Ahri can take your remaining AP and mana items, while Ezreal keeps the main AD items. This is a great alternative when you don't have the items or conditions for Aphelios. Alternative Level 9 Board Instead of committing entirely to one secondary carry, you can also combine the Elderwood core with Ahri, Soraka or Aphelios, depending on your items and available Emblems. Lux remains one of the strongest late-game additions, especially when you can activate 3 Executioner. The main idea is to keep Ezreal as the primary carry and use the additional slots to complement whatever items and Emblems the game gives you.
